Brief Answer:
Antipsychotic medicines can cause constipation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query. Antipsychotic medications can cause constipation. This is due to the anticholinergic effects of these drugs. You can give him fiber supplements for this. Giving psylliuum husk 5 gram once or twice daily with plenty of water along with this helps in relieving constipation and bulk formation of stools. Giving fruits like berries , grapes , prunes etc is also good. If this is not helping then laxatives like sorbitol or lactulose at bed time will be helpful.
If all these are not helping or if there is symptoms like bleeding while passing stools or rapid weight loss then a consultation with gastroenterologist should be done to rule out any pathology causing it.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

Both quetiapin and daxid can cause constipation.

Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

Both quetiapin and daxid has constipation as side effect. Softovac sf is an ayurvedic non habit forming preparation for constipation. It is good also. If this is not helping then you can use psyllium husk. also increase intake of plain water. Give whole grain foods, vegeatable salads and whole fruits. But if this is also not helping then prescription laxatives like dulcolax (bisacodyl) can be used.

Brief Answer:
If this is a new onset problem then gastro consultation is better.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

You can wait for 1 more day as it is not must to pass stools everyday. But if he is having a regular bowel movement everyday and recently getting this problem then it is better to consult gastroenterologist.
Give more plain water and fiber rich foods. Also take him for a walk daily. Lack of physical activity also increases constipation. For those who are above 60 with new onset constipation it is recommended to have consultation with gastro enterologist and colonoscopy if necessary.
