What Causes Chafing In The Anal Area?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jun 2016
Question: I have experienced chafing in the anal area, on and off for about three weeks. Sometimes it nearly disappears, but when my stool is softer, the irritation returns, sometimes with very very light bleeding. I've tried preparation h and an ointment, but nothing has really solved the problem. What should I do?

Brief Answer:
Hemorrhoids are the most probable reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Your problem is caused by hemorrhoids. Its a kind of enlarged veins in the anal area. Once hemorrhoids appear, wont disappear with medicines. That is why, Preparation H did not help.
Medicines can only ease the symptoms. But wont solve the problem permanently.

Please try such treatment first:
- have sitz baths with Oak Bark twice a day for 7 days
- add fiber and probiotic to your diet
- do not push hard on stool
- wash your rectum after every stool

If this wont help in a week or so, you should consult proctologist. Colonoscopy should be done and surgery considered.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
