Question: Hello, I have bilateral calf pain that is so bad it interrupts sleep and is often worse when I lay down. This had been going on for a couple of years maybe but is really getting worse. I know I genetically am predisposed to DVT but this is in both legs. I've tried massage, heat, PT and my Tensunit. 4 months ago I had a Laminectomy at L4-5 and I think it's worse since the surgery. Who do I go see about this or do I just deal with it?

Dear Madam,
Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that there can be many reasons for calf pain so it will be very difficult to give you one reason for this based on the history . But still we can discuss the possibilities , one is get your vitamin D and calcium levels tested , their deficiency can also lead to this . Other thing is to get CPK levels done to rule out myositis .
Next possibility is to rule out venous insufficiency so USG doppler of legs is highly recommended . These are the most common possibilties in your context so ruling these is very important , you can discuss with your treating doctor regarding this .
Take care.

Dear MADAM,
USG doppler reasonably establishes any arterial or venous insufficiency , yes it is rare to get bilateral involvement but still should be looked at .
