What Causes Bubble Feeling Under Right Rib Cage?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015
Question: I feel a "bubble" by my ribcage, just to the right of my sternum. I have been coughing hard for several days, and that area hurts--feels like a muscle spasm. Is it possible to get a hernia from coughing too hard?

Brief Answer:
Possibility of bulla / herniation has to be confirmed or ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read and understood your history and concerns.

It is possible to have hernia from coughing too hard.
The part of the lung can get transformed into a rounded air containing structure called bulla and can go through the defect in between the intercostal muscles to be felt as bubble.

This can be confirmed by an X-ray of the chest in lateral view or better to get a CT scan done so as to study the whole lungs and thorax with a pointer kept on the area where your are feeling a bubble.

I hope this answers your query.

Thank you. Is this a dangerous condition or just a nuisance?

To be taken seriously

Thanks for your appreciation.
Whether this is a dangerous condition or not can be decided only after the report of the CT scan is seen.
I think this should be taken serious.
