Brief Answer: it is sympathetic overactivity Detailed Answer: Hello, Feeling shaky and having a rapid heart beat after a hot bath is mostly due to sympathetic over-activity due to release of the stress hormones. You are also feeling like your heart is going to pound out of your chest - Did you count your heart rate? How much is it? Are you feeling dizzy as well with excessive sweating? Is there unbearable chest pain too? Please let me know about these. It is possible that your overweight status has started to affect your heart. For this, you need to do certain basic tests like an EKG of the heart, a treadmill test to check for the efficiency of your heat beating. Also, getting a fasting lipid profile would help to assess your cholesterol levels that could have been increased by the overweight status. As of now, I would suggest you to rest for a while, drink plenty of water, take some deep breaths, and try to calm down. Your heart rate should normalize soon. If the symptoms worsen or you do not feel better in an hour, please rush to the emergency room. Work on your weight. Get well soon.

My heart rate has decreased to normal now. Yes I was having chest pains and dizziness have been having rapid heart rate and chest pains lately maybe a week. My husband thinks it's anxiety but it feels different from an anxiety attack. sweating also subsided. I'm so frightened of doctors I don't know what to do.

Brief Answer: do not be frightened Detailed Answer: Hello, I am glad your heart rate has decreased now. There is no need to be frightened of doctors. They are good :) Please make an appointment at the doctor's office and get an elective Electrocardiogram (EKG) done to check your heart. I partly agree with your husband that it could related to anxiety as well. However, we need to rule out any major underlying problem. Get well soon.

What do I say to the receptionist? I need to be seen about being fat? most doctors address my weight before I can even ask for advice on how to start. I have been on a low sugar and vegetarian diet for two weeks and it feels like my anxiety is thru the roof because of it. I know i need to lose at least 100 lbs. any advice is appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer: No, say that you need to be seen for your heart Detailed Answer: Hello, What you need to say to the receptionist is that you need to see your doctor for a problem with your heart. Perhaps, you could say that you want to discuss about your rapid heart beat. You need not say that you need to be seen for being fat. You have already taken steps to reduce your weight, that is good. Also, most doctors would advice you the same thing on diet. You have already started doing what you are supposed to do. Hence, please continue along the same path. 100lbs is not easy to lose. However, it is not impossible. If you could find a physical trainer that could help you with the exercise and diet regimen, that would be beneficial and easier for you to lose weight. When you see the doctor, do not panic or be frightened. Just discuss calmly about your need to get tested for your heart. Hope this helps you. Wish you good health.
