default
Posted on Thu, 19 Mar 2015
Question: Last week I had bloody urine pain and urgency. Tx in ER with AZO and Ceftin . Ultra sound neg. Still having some mild cramping. I am 67 and had a cystoscope 5 yr ago which was neg. Have had about 2 episodes of bloody urine which lasted 24 hrs not txed. Of course concerned about cancer but leaning towards interstitial cystitis. I am a nurse.

Brief Answer:
Interstitial cystitis would not present with blood!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and XXXXXXX you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this blood in your urine. Acute blood in urine and urinary urgency is more suggestive of a UTI. Your treatment is well adapted and I believe you would be feeling a lot better sooner than later.

Cancer often present with XXXXXXX blood, over a long time and pains is often absent.. Interstitial cystitis would present with chronic and very disturbing pain with signs of urgency but not blood. Seen the short course of this pain, the acute nature of blood in urine, cancer or interstitial cystitis is not very plausible at this time.

My advice is to continue the treatment and monitor. If anything more concerning comes up, then we can go aggressive to look for the uncommon. At this time, I will not be going for that.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
