Question: Hi,
I had impacted ear wax removed from my yesterday by an otolaryngologist from an international hearing foundation. It was painful and bled. He packed my ear with cotton wool and said keep it packed for five days. Second day and ear is still bleeding and mildly painful. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
Yes,mild bleeding and pain might be there

Detailed Answer:
Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

There are chances of mild injury to the skin of the external ear canal while cleaning the ear if the wax is hard and stuck to the skin of ear canal. This may lead to bleeding. This bleeding generally gets stopped by packing the ear canal as your doctor did.
However, sometimes as your pack in the ear gets loose next day, bleeding might occur due to raw blood vessel exposed due to injury. If the bleeding is only mild, then don't worry as it will stop on its own.But if the bleeding is continuous, then you may need to again pack your ear for minimum 2 days.
You may take Analgesic with Antiinflammatory like Ibuprofen, with Antacid like Rantac for the ear pain.

Don't clean your ear by self.

Hope this answers your question. I would be happy to answer if you have any further questions.Take care.
