Question: My son is 16 months old. Since, March 2017, he has been in the hospital for breathing issues. His oxygen levels go low (Saturation is around 85) and this last for a week. He is being treating like asthma. However, this is brought on by an infection. Each time this occurs he has fever, runny nose, and weezing. He has had an x-ray taken only 2 times and each time a mass or cloud was found in his lungs and was treated for pneumonia. Adding antibiotics to his treatment, along with the already oxygen, steroid, and nebulizer. He seems to be getting sick again( runny nose and throwing up), I was wondering if you have heard of any conditions like this?
P.S. He gets sick first each time and then has the breathing issue.

Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health

Recurrent pneumonia in an infant raises the concern for underlying conditions like cystic fibrosis, immunodeficiency syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease, aspiration syndrome.

Series of investigation including sweat chloride test, blood antibody levels, complete and differential blood counts, abdominal ultrasound are required as initial.screening. Depending on initial results further investigations met also be needed.

Please be advised to follow up with your son's Pediatrician for the necessary evaluation.
