What Causes Abdominal Pressure And Cramps During Early Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Nov 2015
Question: I some blood work done and found out I am about 2 weeks pregnant. I have been having a lot of pressure, not really cramping but pressure in my lower abdomen. It comes and goes and is not painful but uncomfortable. Should I be worried? I keep reading this is common because of implantation but this has been going on for the last week. And can I really be so affected by something so tiny at this point? I have a history of two previous miscarriages very early on and one full term pregnancy. But my son is 17 and the last time I was pregnant was in 2003 and that ended in a miscarriage at about 5 weeks pregnant. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Do not panic, but have an evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
This is a tricky situation.
Soe amount of pressure and discomfort is actually quite common in very early pregnancy.
This is because of the various changes that are occurring within the uterus and pelvis.
But you have a few risk factors in your history.
A history of prior two miscarriages is one major risk factor.
The other one is your age.
At 43, miscarriages are way more common compared to a younger woman.
So while you should not panic, it is reasonable to have an evaluation done to see that there is no real threat.
Consult your OB and have a pelvic ultrasound scan and an internal exam done.
If these 2 things are normal, you can relax.
All the best for your pregnancy !
Please feel free to discuss further.
