What Causes Abdominal Pain, Vomiting And Diarrhea?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Jan 2017
Question: Last night starting around 10 o'clock I had an intense experience with what I thought was food poisoning--up all night, lots of abdominal pain, vomiting, diarhea (?), etc. I managed to fall asleep this morning for a few hours. The pain has subsided, although my bowel movements are still mostly liquid and I'm incredibly tired. Planning to rest all day and drinking lots of liquids. As for the prospect of food poisoning, me and my wife ate the exact same thing last night and she didn't have any problem at all. So I'm wondering if this might be a 24 hour bug or maybe appendicitis?

Brief Answer:
As detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thank for your query.
To recapitulate: Male/50 - ate the same things with wife who has no problems - pain in abdomen, vomiting, diarrhea - started at 10 and up all night - thought of food poisoning - took Zantac and diphenoxylate-atropine - few hours sleep in the morning- pain subsided - liquid bm - tired - planning rest all day - liquids - wondering it as 24 hour bug or appendicitis...

As per the history you have provided, this looks to be a bug.
I would advise you the following:
Consult your Doctor for clinical evaluation and examination to see whether there are signs of bacterial infection, vitals, dehydration and to get prescription based medicines to have better, early and complete recovery.
Get the stool and blood tested so that if there is any evidence of bacterial infection, you will be started on appropriate antibiotic to get a complete cure.
Rest of the treatment with probiotics, activated charcoal tablets, supplements of electrolytes, antispasmodic, antiemetic remains the same in either of the conditions as a symptomatic treatment.
I hope this answer helps you.
