What Causes A Patch Of Scaly Flat Lesions On Leg And Torso?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Jun 2015
Question: I believe I have pityriasis rosacea. It began with what seemed to be a "herald patch" on my leg about 2 months ago, then it was on my torso and went away after a few weeks, now the same looking rash is on my buttocks only. Not near the anus just on the outside. It doesn't itch. It is scaly, flat, and red. Just wanting to make sure that I shouldn't be concerned that it is something else.

I uploaded a picture and circled some of the spots. Is it normal for the rash to go away or almost clear up and then move to a different place on the body? From what I've read this can last up to 6 months, is that correct? Also are there any other symptoms I need to be aware of, as I know the rash is produced from a viral infection. Are there any viral infections known specifically to cause this? Any information on this would be great. I've had this for almost 3 months now.

Brief Answer:
Try clotrimazole

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the follow up and photograph.
You have done a detailed study.
Definitely it is looking like pityriasis roseae.
As mentioned by you it is a reaction to viral infection and can last upto 6 months.
No particular virus is involved.
I have seen good results with ointment clotrimazole.
Although it is an antifungal ointment but gives good response.
You can try this.
Let me know if you have any other doubt.
Thank you
