What Causes A Painless Bump On Scrotum?

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Jun 2015
Question: This past Friday night I noticed an elevation or bump above the scrotum area to my right. It is not painful, and it has in no way affected my going to the bathroom. This was the first time I noticed it, and I am confident that I would have noticed it had it showed up sooner. The only thing that makes any sense to me, is that earlier in the day I had been doing a lot of vacuuming, and when I am vacuuming there is quite a bit of back and forth with the standup vacuum, and in making that movement I believe it's possible that The handle portion of the vacuum hit me in just that area causing the elevation or bump. What do you think? Could it be this, or is it something else?

Brief Answer:
Bump due to hit is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Its really hard to answer this question not being able to see it. Could you please attach a photo of it?

Painless bump in this location can be an enlarged lymph node. Especially if you find this lump little bit hard and movable. Lymph node is usually rounded and smooth.

Swelling due to hit is also possible. But in such case you should not palpate a lump, just a little more soft tissue.

If it bother you, soft tissues ultrasound can be done. But from your description this is nothing serious.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

If this is just a little more soft tissue due to the swelling, what can I do to bring down the swelling? Also how long should it take to bring down the swelling? Is using an ice pack a good thing to use? How often should I use it?, and for how long each time?

Brief Answer:
Ice pack is a good idea.

Detailed Answer:
Yes, ice pack is a good think. But do not put it directly to the skin. Put a towel between the skin and ice. It should be used 10-15 times a day. Each time it should be applied for 10 minutes.

If it is an enlarged lymph node what is the course of treatment, and what should I expect?

Answered by Dr. Grzegorz Stanko (6 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Lymph node can be a reaction to inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Lymph node appears due to inflammation in the close area. Such inflammation does not have to be noticed by you. Lymph node does not need any treatment. It needs to be under observation. If lymph node is constantly getting bigger, should be checked with a biopsy. If it remains the same, no need to do anything with it.

Whether it is a little more soft tissue due to the swelling, or whether it is an enlargement of the lymph node, How long can I expect this to last before it goes away? How long will it take for the swelling or inflammation to go away if I use the ice pack as you suggested?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Grzegorz Stanko (3 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Inflammation should disappear within few days.

Detailed Answer:
If its an inflammation caused by a hit, few days is long enough for this swelling to go away. If there is not improvement in few days, this might be something else.
Enlarged lymph node can stay there for a long time (like weeks or even months).
So if you feel no improvement, maybe its time for an ultrasound.
