What Causes A Negative Urine Drug Test Result Despite Taking Oxymorphone?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Nov 2015
Question: I am prescribed oxymorphone 10 mg. had a drug screen test from my PM doctor show up as negative for oxymorphone. I had taken one around 7 a.m. I had also taken two the day before, one in the morning and one at around 2:00 p.m. I do not understand how it could be negative. They say the next step is to send it to a lab in Florida for “confirmation”. If this test doesn’t show any oxymorphone in my system, my PM is going to discharge me. I was fully honest on how I had taken my medication, but it didn’t matter. He is strict, but he is the best in my area. Can you tell me if a more in depth drug screen will confirm that I had taken my medication, just not as much as I was supposed to? This really has me worried.

Brief Answer:
Laboratory drug test will confirm it for sure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Test always can be false negative. It means that even with the drug in the bloodstream, the test may not detect it. Its because of the limitation of the method.
Quick urine screen tests performed at PM doctors office, are really the worst possible tests. They can be negative very often. Especially if the drug concentration was lower than the method can detect it (100ng/mL is the regular concentration cutoff).
As every patient is different, the elimination of this drug can be different than on the others. It is possible that you do not secrete this drug to the urine, or do secrete it in small amount. It can be caused due to your individual enzymes activity (those who eliminate the drug) or in some cases it can be kidneys problem.

As they are going to send it to laboratory, you should agree to that. In the lab they will use accurate method which can detect this drug even in microscopic amount. No doubt in that. So most likely this test will confirm it.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
