What Casues Tingling In Arms After Tetanus Shot For A Dog Bite?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Jul 2014
Question: Was bitten by a dog 9 days ago. Dog had rabies vaccine 3 months ago. I was given a tetanus shot 24 hours after the bite- which was deep and occurrd on my lower left leg. Have been to doctor 3 times in last week. I am taking augmentin, flagyl, Valium and flexeril. Noticed both arms tingling since about a day after tetanus shot. That sensation went away for a few days but is back in my right shoulder and arm. Got shot in left shoulder. Right shoulder and arm are very weak and fine times get tingling in right hand. I have had varying degrees of tingling and muscle spasms in the leg where the bite occurrd. This started about 8 hours sfter the bite and has continued. I live in metro XXXXXXX Arizona. I continue to be worried about rabies. All indications from family who owns fog are that it is acting normally. I am worried. Please help

Brief Answer:
Rabies is unlikely in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and other clinical details. First of all, I would like to reassure you that there is no need to worry about your symptoms that they could be because of rabies.

The fact that the dog is well, and has received anti-rabies vaccine recently, make it unlikely for you to contact rabies.

Your symptoms could be due to direct injury to the nerves and muscles due to bite, and would recover in a few weeks. If symptoms are troublesome, you may take pregabalin capsules.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Brief Answer:
Yes, it was a deep wound.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back and sending the picture of the wound. It was indeed deep, and now, I am sure your symptoms are related to the injury of tissues due to the bite. You are on correct medications including antibiotics.

Best wishes,

Brief Answer:
Could be due to mechanical pressure.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

Episodes of tingling and muscle twitching could be normal and they occur due to mechanical pressure on the nerves in the skin.

Only if these symptoms persist all the time or if they worsen over time, we need to investigate to find out the underlying reason.

Best wishes,

Thank you Dr. Seem to still have anxiety regarding rabies. I know it is almost impossible regarding my circumstances. I have noticed that myscle twitching in my back and neck at times. Could this be due to severe anxiety? I will probably see my PC Dr. In the next few days .
