What Are The Tests To Determine Yeast Or Fungal Overgrowth In Lower Esophagus?

Question: How can a doctor determine if there is a yeast or fungi overgrowth in the lower esophagus? My Mom went to the WakeMed Hospital in XXXXXXX NC on April 29th with a broken leg. She had two surgeries to fix her leg. Prior to entering the hospital she had an Urinary Track infection, which was treated with antibiotics. Could the antibiotics have killed off enough good bacteria (which produces Bioten which controls the yeast population) that the yeast have over grown in her esophagus?

Based on the data you provided are suggestive that your grandma has a mycosis infection through all gastrointestinal tracts (and not only on esophag and stomach).

For the diagnosis of candida in case that the patient refuses to do endoscopy we recommend to do:
- Stool analysis for candida
- Throat culture

Meantime I would like to recommend:
- avoid spicy food
- eat often and small portions
- use dactarine gel
