Question: My husband fell in the tub earlier today, approximately 4:00 pm. he has not got a head ache,or pains. I was told to make sure he stays awake, he has been awake since he fell and doing ok. If he falls asleep now can he sleep thru the night or do I have to wake him up every hour for the 12 hour period?

Brief Answer:
At least two hours once, check for normal response

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. A hematoma forming and compression of brain tissue leading onto coma is the main reason behind it.
2. Watching for 24 hours closely is important.
3. You need to at least watch every two hours to see if he is responding well. Its important. If he has any difficulty in breathing or low response than during normal sleep, you need to try to wake him completely.
4. He can go to sleep, but let it be disturbed by you for a night to watch out for any complications. Not to worry. Also if he had any blurred vision or any weakness needs to be asked.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
