What Are The Symptoms Of Rabies?

Posted on Sat, 31 May 2014
Question: Hi I was wondering if I could be enlightened on the symptoms of rabies? I got bitten 4 weeks ago and I keep having joint aches at my wrist and knee. My deltoid muscle as well as my achilles muscle keep aching. I am also worried because I have this cold that has lasted for a while now and had this mind grain that lasted for about 2 minutes about 2 weeks ago that got my eyes hurting so bad. Finally when I sit for long and get up, I feel this numbness in my leg. Its as if I have no legs. The dog that bit me had its rabies shot 2 days before the bite. I am very worried and I want to know if am safe. I already visited my physician but he said I was fine and all I needed was to clean the wound each morning and apply Neosporin. I want to now if am safe and also if its too late to get the vaccine shot since its already 4 weeks now.

Hi XXXX
I can understand your worry.
Please answer these questions:
1. what is the site of the bite?
2. is the dog still healthy and alive?
If the dog is healthy and alive, you do not have rabies and you are 1000% safe.
your symptoms could relate to other viral infections but not rabies.
waiting for response.

As at now I haven't seen the dog but I saw it 7 days after and was very healthy and alive. However it was returned to the rescue because a family wanted to adopt it, so don't know how its doing now. The site of the bite was my finger and I will like to know if there is any way I could send you a picture of it. My physician said it didn't look infected and was healing just fine. its completely healed now and didn't have any pain, redness nor was it swollen.

Brief Answer:
yes, you can post the image

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
you can post the image if you want. You can search for how to tag an image or you can contact customer service of HCM.
As your wound got cured , no symptoms of rabies even after few weeks, dog being healthy and prior vaccinated, there is absolutely no reason to worry or even think of rabies.
As I told you, your symptoms are surely because of some other illness about which your doctor will address.
Hope this is clear.
