Brief Answer:
Please use ice pack for 15 to 20 minutes twice daily and follow suggestions

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Sorry to hear about your fall and injury and hoping your pain is under control.

2. To reduce the pain and discomfort you can apply ice pack over the hurting area twice daily for 15 to 20 minutes before you start doing light work. An ice pack can be made by wrapping ice cubes in a towel and then applying over the painful area. At home try to elevate the arm by resting it on a pillow or cushion. Please avoid weight bearing and doing heavy physical activity involving your injured arm and hand for some more time.

3. Tendons and ligaments attach muscles and bones and help in performing complex movements in the limbs.

4. X rays show only bones and any soft tissue injury involving muscle tendons and ligaments will not be visible on them.

5. Any injury to tendons and ligaments might take up to 6 weeks for healing and it is possible that you have hurt the ligaments in your arm and wrist.

6. If you fell on an outstretched arm then it will be advisabble to take another X ray of the wrist to look for any subtle fracture involving the scaphoid bone.

7. To provide adequate rest and for early healing, you must continue to use the arm and hand brace, at least during the day.

8. If the pain is worsening even after medications and there is increase in swelling in any particular area then a MRI scan is advised to look for any occult injury involving the muscles, bones and ligaments.

Wishing you a quick recovery.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.

1. Please apply an ointment or spray containing pain reliever and muscle relaxant preparation gently over the arm and wrist just before sleeping. Please do no massage your arm.

2. You should not lift weight that is than 5 pounds and only when required. Avoid weights till such time that your soft tissues have healed and this might take 4 weeks.
