Suggest Ways To Lower AST And ALT Levels

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I had some very high enzyme levels on 3/4. AST of 214 and ALT of 181. I reduced alcohol consumption significantly (but not completely) and took milk thistle and other liver supplements and B vitamins and then re-tested on 3/29. At that point AST was 65 and ALT was 53. Still want them lower. I have not completely abstained from 3/4 to 3/29 but reduced. I want to test again on 4/20 (that will be four days no alcohol). Do you think I should wait longer to re-test?

Brief Answer:
Alcohol stoppage will fix it.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I red your question and i understand your concern. You had alcoholic liver disease and avoiding alcohol is wise. Your liver function tests have come back to normal and not worrisome any more but still in upper limit of normal. Solution to all this is pretty one directional. Alcohol free life. Sign up to alcoholic anonymous and get a rehab. All your issues will resolve. Continue using thiamine and other supplements to help liver regenerate and prevent side effects.

Once every 2 or 3 months followup of liver enzymes would be wise and should be continued. That freuent like you are doing is not necessary.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
