Brief Answer:
That depends on the previous medication

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

Sir, his sugar levels are higher initially and after the Insulin and Istamet seems to showing a clear response of lowering sugar levels. But even now the sugar levels are a bit higher than normal. I generally wait 2-3 weeks before deciding to increase the dose in such cases.

As far as stopping insulin is concerned, if I were his treating doctor and if maximum doses of the other drugs failed to control sugar levels before starting insulin, then I would object to this decision and recommend he continues with insulin. But if he is on insulin in view of high sugar levels with out trying optimal dosages of drugs, then in view of his reluctance to insulin, I would stop insulin a while and try on drugs with blood monitoring for 5-6 weeks time. But if the sugar levels bounce back, then Insulin is must. These changes should be done after discussing with the treating doctor.

For this we need to know the previous medication with correct dosages. Please write back to us with that information.

Hope this guides you. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help. Wishing your father in Law good health.
Thank you.
