Suggest Treatment For Vitiligo

Question: my son has vitiligo about 2 month at the end of his left eyebrow and he has lost partly colour of eyebrow. doctor tells that it is sigmental vitiligo. we use medicine - protopic % 0.1cream and solgar antioksidant tablets. my query - it will progress or stop and your opinion about this treatment. what we should do to stop it. thank you.

Brief Answer: UVB311 useful; continue Protopic & antoxidants Detailed Answer: Hi there XXXX I read your query & empathise with you. What you allude to & describe is a 'focal' segmental vitiligo. This carries a better prognosis than the generalised variant. Don't worry...the treatment with protopic & antoxidant is possibly the right one & will help re-pigment the skin in a matter of weeks..how long exactly no one can say for sure. As for what additional treatment, my personal recommendation is addition of ultraviolet light therapy (UV) delivered to the localised area using a hand held device. UVB311 would be the ideal choice of UV light to be used. This can be started about 3 weeks to a month after starting the therapy with Protopic as I find the combination helps re-pigment best. This needs to be done twice/week under your dermatologist's supervision for graded increase in dose/timings. Please do not do it at home for fear of causing skin burns.
