Question: Doctor,
we live in USA. My wife has diagnosed with viteligo in 2015. She has viteligo on her hands and legs. She has seen the doctor in Sept 2015. Doctor asked us if we want to go with light theraphy. But we denied it.

Now in April 2016, we notice that white spots are increasing. she found 2-3 new white spots.

Can you please suggest the best way to stop spreading the viteligo ? Is Treatment in XXXXXXX better then the treatment in USA ?

Can you also please suggest if she needs to decrease eating vitamin C, like leamon, oranges etc ?

Ayurvedic doctors in XXXXXXX claim that they do have cure for viteligo, please suggest if you recommend that.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
there are numerous treatment options

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern

There are a lot of treatment options for vitiligo like topical steroid creams, tacrolimus ointment, PUVA Sol, placental extract, b- FGF, pseudocatalase, targetted broadband light therapy etc.
Systemic treatment options include phototherapy ( PUVA, NB UVB), oral steroids etc.
Topical and systemic treatment can also be combined for maximum benefit.
Besides these surgical treatment options include suction blister, autologous melanocyte culture and transplant.
Treatment is individualized and the choice of treatment, asecuded by the treating doctor depends on the extent of vitiligo and whether it is stable or spreading.
Light therapy is effective and good treatment option for vitiligo.

Brief Answer:
There are no specific precautions to prevent spread of vitiligo

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

There are no specific measures that one should take to prevent vitiligo from spreading on to face. However she may add an oral antioxidant supplement. There is no point exposing to sun if there are no active lesions of vitiligo. Of course, she can use tbe sunscreen.
