Suggest Treatment For Undescended Testes
Question: My grandson has just been diagnosed with an undescended testicle. He is four years old and has been under a doctor's care for normal care and this has problem has just now arisen. The family is wondering what to do next and etc. What can we expect?

He does need to be seen by a pediatric urologist. It needs to be treated surgically- the testes would need to be located and placed in the scrotum.
The reasons for this are: (1) undescended testes is associated with a increased risk of cancer ( 40 times greater) but this risk is significantly reduced if the testes is replaced prior to puberty
(2)risk of future fertility- this is also an associated problem
(3) there is also a risk of associated hernia but this risk is not as troublesome as the above
Once the procedure is done, his risk of these problems would be significantly less.
