Suggest Treatment For Tight Muscles And Pain In The Calf

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Nov 2016
Question: My right calf has felt tight since Saturday but I chalked it off as I've felt tight muscles from regular exercise at the gym. I didn't take notice until last before going to bed. As I was taking my socks off I noticed my right calf was swollen and had red blotches on the inside. I then found the red blotches were tender or sore to the touch. I went to sleep which I do on my back with a pillow under my knees to take the pressure off L4 which apparently can move a little due to arthritis. When I got during night to make a bathroom run, I initially could hardly walk when I put weight on my right foot. As I limped to BR it seemed to loosen up and I could walk without the big limp. Getting up this morning I noticed same thing although swelling was about gone. I put my hand on the red area on inside of my calf and felt heat. My left calf felt cold. After hot shower and getting on with the day, I've noticed the swelling has returned but I can walk pretty much like normal but do feel the tightness a little. FYI, I'm 71 yr old male, have had CABGx5 in 2011, had all five toes operated on May 2015. I'm still active, just went through my annual nuclear stress test with my cardiologist in preparation for my FAA medical exam later this month. I'm retired US Navy F-14 pilot and still fly my own plane. Although my wife and I live in Southern Maryland, I'm in PA North of Phila. until tomorrow meeting with contractors remodeling a house we own. Thank you for any insight into this new symptom you can provide.

Brief Answer:
Hi XXXX, The symptoms you describe may be due to Cellulitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, The symptoms you describe may be due to Cellulitis (swelling and infection in tissues below the skin). I think you will need an urgent course of antibiotics. Please visit your doctor for the same. Another possibility is deep vein thrombosis (less likely). I know you are concerned about your meeting with your contractors, but since you have had surgery on all five toes, please take this seriously. You can revert back to me with further queries. Regards
