Brief Answer:
Reconfirm by doing specific quantitative test

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr. XXXXXXX

Welcome to health care magic.

I understand your concern regarding a weakly reactive test for syphilis but that has to be confirmed by specific quantitative tests like FTA - ABs (Fluorescent antibodies) or TPI (Treponema Pallidum Immobilization)test.

Please get in touch with your treating doctor and discuss the above mentioned options before starting treatment.

The best antibiotic used to treat syphilis is penicillin which is given as a single dose in primary and secondary syphilis.

Treatment is longer in tertiary stage.

I hope I have cleared your doubts.

Please get back if any more queries.

Thanks.

Dear Doctor

Thanking you for your kind reply and according to your advice I did consult with a doctor here in Bahrain as I am resident in Bahrain.

He advised me to do two more tests which the results are VDRL negative and TPHA positive. (Actually I had VDRL positive six years back and I took treatment and it was since then negative only)

Ad when I did a test on 26th of August it was showing as weakly reactive. But on 27th according to the doctor instruction when I did again it shows VDRL negative and TPHA positive. For this the doctor said that some time it can be falsely reactive can be shown. that's why he said the other two tests were shown more clear. and the TPHA will remain positive due to my past history of VDRL positive. is that right?

And the doctor advised me that no medication is required as VDRL is negative and even though TPHA is positive that is due the past history of my VDRL positive .

Is this convince answer from the doctor as he said no need any medication even though TPHA positive and VDRL negative.

Could you please kindly advice me if I need medication any antibiotic if so can you prescribe the medicine for me.

Second ISSUE

Moreover since last few years I get occasionally like rashes in my penis and I used to take VALTREX as advised by the doctor. As the doctor suspect it can herpes earlier. could you please advice me for this also a permanent solution with any more effective antibiotic.

Brief Answer:
TPHA test detects past infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr. XXXXXXX

Welcome back.

Your doctor is right that TPHA detects past infection and can detect antibodies present in the body due to past infection.

As you are VDRL negative, you do not require any medication.

Coming to your second issue, genital herpes has the property of recurrence, and recurrent disease is less severe than the primary infection.

Valtrex and other antivirals used in treatment of herpes infections prevent recurrence rather than completely cure herpes.

Other antivirals like famciclovir can be tried.

Herpes infection recurs when a persons immunity falls and the best way to prevent recurrence is boost your immunity.

Few tips to follow:
1. Multivitamin capsules once daily for 15 days.
2. Balanced and nutritious diet.
3. Avoid stressful conditions as stress also causes fall in immune levels.
4. Regular exercise regime to keep you fit and also develops strong immunity.

I hope I have cleared your doubts.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Famciclovir and Valtrex have similar efficiency

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr. XXXXXXX

Welcome back.

I am glad to know that you are following a healthy lifestyle.

You can take Cap Multizac which is a good combination of vitamins to boost your immunity.

Famciclovir and Valacyclovir (Valtrex) are both new antiherpes prodrugs.

Both drugs are of similar efficiency and I suggested Famciclovir only if you are not responding to Valtrex.

Mind you both these drugs prevent recurrence rather than completely cure herpes.

I suggest you avoid stressful situations and continue the healthy lifestyle you are following.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
