Suggest Treatment For Swelling In Leg While Diagnosed With CHF

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Feb 2016
Question: I have swollen ankles, feet, and calves that weep. I've been diagnosed with CHF. I have sporadic itching, with localized fever, all over my body. I have two questions: 1) Is there a connection between the CHF and the itching, and 2) what type specialist should I see?

Brief Answer:
Only if the liver is involved

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.

Well, it is a known fact that if a certain diagnosis is accompanied with heart failure, there is also a possibility of other organs failing. Heart, the pump of the organism, if fails, not only provides lower than normal output to the organ, but it also retains more than normal fluids, which can lead into liver engorgement, leading to increased levels of hepatic bilirubin. Bilirubin is attached to the liver and the skin, and high levels of it is associated with high itching sensation.

As for the second question, I would recommend you to continue consulting a cardiologist in person , since dilated cardiomyopathy can show clinical parts of the heart not moving

I hope I was helpful with my answer. I would like to answer your follow-up questions, so let me know if there are any.

Regards
