Suggest Treatment For Sores In Lip Post Hysterectomy

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Jan 2016
Question: I'm five days post-hysterectomy and have developed 4-5 extremely painful canker sores inside my lower lip. Could these be due to the breathing tube used during surgery and/or the stress of surgery? A nurse friend of mine is recommending using "magic mouthwash" (lidocaine, Milk of Magnesia, Benadryl)? Is this recommended? It's very difficult to eat or drink with these sores present.

Brief Answer:
It may be helpful

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
This may be caused by combination of intubation procedure, weakened immune system and psycho somatic stress. this is called aphtous eczema and usually causes burning pain but it has benign course and improves within 5-7 days even with no therapy. this mouthwash that you 've mentioned will reduce pain but it will not facilitate healing. you just need to be patient, brush teeth 2-3 times a day, avoid spicy food and eat vitamin rich food. Wish you good health. Regards
