Posted on Sat, 2 Aug 2014
Question: I had a wart on my finger that was frozen. The area turned into a huge blister and became infected. The blister broke and now I'm extremely worried of how it looks. Do I need stiches? What do I do? I was prescribed an ointment in Johannasberg, South XXXXXXX by a chemist but i dont know how much that is working. I am in south XXXXXXX again, so I am limited to an extent.

Brief Answer:
Normal cascade of healing process. Don't worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I an understand your concern for the present appearance of finger after treatment for wart.

After reading your query and analyzing the picture with diligence let me first of all reassure you that you were provided with the best treatment and the present appearance of the finger is the normal, natural cascade of the treatment process.

Let me elaborate: You were done with Cryo-cautery (freezing the wart with cold gas). It is one of the best method of treatment for such kind of warts on pal mar surface.

There is blistering after the procedure and then the wart along with underlying skin falls off to form a raw skin surface which is known as ulcer.

These ulcers heals with a pace of less than 1mm per day. So watching your ulcer I can predict that it would be taking around 15-20 days for complete healing.

There are certain suggestion for you:

- Do not keep it open in day time. It would be better if you can cover it with Band-aid or simple antiseptic tape in day time.

- You can keep it open at night time.

- Clean it with antiseptic lotion for two times. You can clean with any antiseptic lotion diluted in boiled water. A tea spoon of antiseptic is sufficient for a cup of water.

- Keep your affected hand above your heart level. It will help in reducing the pooling of blood and therefore the pain and swelling.

- The wound is quite healthy and you do not require any antibiotic tablets. A pain killer tablet along with Serratiopeptidase can be taken for two times for 5 days after good meals. It would be of great help in early healing, reducing the inflammation and pain.

- Do not at all go for any stitching as is not required and can even worsen the condition.

- DO not try to touch, pinch or pop the area.

- Give rest to the affected hand.

I hope you are immunized with tetanus toxoid within last 5 years of period. If not then can get immunized for tetanus toxoid at the earliest.

DO not worry you will feel better within 5-7 days.

I hope these informations will relax you. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help.

Wish you good health,

With regards,
