Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Prozac

Question: I have been taking Prozak 60 mg for about 5 years. I have heard they have a "poop out" period. Is that true and if it is have I reached it. The reason I ask is because I get my meds by mail and did not receive my prozak on time and went about a week without it and felt no difference at all. I have take other types of anti-depressants and there were SXS when I tried to quit or switch. How long should I expect the same dose of prozak to be effective and If I have not felt side effects after a week is it possible I will still get side effects?

I can understand your concern. Prozac is Fluoxetine abs the drug is a SSRI drug. In most cases with optimal doses the drug helps in controlling the symptoms with in 4-6 weeks of starting therapy. If no response is seen after roughly 3 months re-evaluation of medicines is needed. You were taking the drug since last 5 years and if it didn't result in improvement then there is need to reconsider the prescription. Other more effective medicines should be tried or dose should be increased.

As after quitting the drug you didn't have any withdrawal symptoms in first week then I don't think the symptoms will develop in coming weeks. No need to worry at all.
