Question: Hello Doctor

I'm looking for some medical advice on what I should do now in search for answers in my medical condition.

Symptoms
1. Shortness of breath (feeling of not getting enough air)
2. gasping for air (deep breaths that get cut off)
3. Breathing through nose feels tough
4. Stomach and chest always feel tight from all the deep breaths
5. Deep breaths keep getting cut off

Family medical History
1. Diabetes
2. Hypertension
3. CHF
4. no lung issues in my family other then fluid from CHF

Doctor my main concern with my pulmonary function tests are my PEF readings are low and all my numbers are within normal range but it's not where it should be according to the predicted value. my numbers are not in the 100% range and this worries me. my Fev1 and FVC are not within the 100% either. I understand I do not have COPD but I feel like I'm coming close to it due to my exposure at the fire department. I'm a non smoker and never smoked in my life but I have been around second hand smoke often. I'm scheduling an appointment with an ENT Doctor to try and get them to look into my nose and I'm thinking about setting up an appointment with a pulmongist again to get a DR scan of my lungs and also get a lung diffusion test done to make sure I don't have early emphysema.

Doctor what do you think I should do?

Brief Answer:
Low PEF is not an indication of lung disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

Its Dr. Jolanda

We have already discuss for your concern do you remember?

I hope you are doing well.

I have very carefully seen again your PFT results.

They are in normal ranges and let me explain something :

If PEF values are low and the other parameters are normal in a young patient we doctors are not so worried because it depends on the cooperation of the patient with the device. It is not a disease, believe me

Yes i agree with you to do the Dlco test (diffusion test) and after a CT scan of the lungs .

Please attach me the results and i will try to help you again whenever.

After ENT doctor i think that the situation of nose ,throat and ear will be more clear too for us.

Please do all the above we will discuss again.

But i recommend you to wear professional mask to protect your airways from exposure to fire dust.

Wishes and feel free to ask me again
