Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Knee And Leg

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Nov 2016
Question: Sunday night I had pain in my left leg around my knee (knee replacement done in 2013);
I felt it- it wasn't warm- I took aspirin, slept so-so but it wasn't as painful or sore the next morning. By late afternoon the pain/soreness had left the knee and moved upward in my thigh. By this morning the pain/soreness has moved to upper thigh. It feels a bit like nerve - or a pulled muscle. It is still not warm nor tight which I'm aware would indicate a blood clot. I am however concerned.

Brief Answer:
Best test to diagnose or rule out- a doppler ultrasound of veins

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.
I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

The pain from blood clots would be localized more in the calf and also in the back of the leg.
One test you may do is my measuring the diameter of the calf and other parts and comparing both sides. If it is more then 2 cm diameter, then this is a sign of deep vein thromboses. You are also right that if it feels red, hot or painful to touch locally (but not like you touch a muscle) then it is a sign of deep vein thrombosis top.

The best test to verify with security if that is the diagnoses is a dopple ultrasound of the veins which will localize the location of the blockage if that is the case.
Aspirin will help with the pain and prevent somehow these clots.
If aspirin is helping with a pain, this is a sign of being more muscular and nerve pain.

Hope this is helpful.
