Question: My mother in law is 93 years old but has been in good health except for arthritis in her knees. She does tak blood pressure meds, but they keep her bp under control. Today she had a severe pain in the center of what your chart describes as the lateral chest accompanied by a "hot flash" (she got very warm and began sweating). Now she is sitting comfortably but has shortness of breath. Earlier this week she had much more pain in her left knee than normal. Usually the arthritis in her knee varies with the weather, but she said it was much worse this past week.

Brief Answer:
Cardiac events to be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Chest pain/discomfort associated with autonomic features like sweating, especially in an elderly individual with history of hypertension is to be taken seriously.
Although this can be from simple causes like gastric pain or esophageal spasm, definitely we have to rule out any cardiac events like ischemia/infarction.
Even if she is feeling well now, this needs urgent evaluation.
Kindly see your physician or cardiologist without any delay for detailed evaluation.
You may be asked for investigations like ECG, ECHO, X ray, blood tests etc.

Meanwhile, ask her not to do any sternness activities and try not to make her anxious by conveying such possibilities.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing everything to be fine.
Thank you.
