Question: 1 /29 /17 I am a 80 year old female. I broke a vertebrae in my mid- back number, 9, in XXXXXXX 2016,from a fall, 75% through the vertebrae. I weighed 134 lbs at the time. I am 5 ft 6 inches I had little if any appetite, but managed to eat 4 small meals a day.
I was in excruciating pain for 6 months + and on opiods (sp) for that period of time. My blood pressure is good. Am no longer taking opiods.!!!!!
From the opiods. I ended up with a blocked intestine in October, and ended up in the emergency room while they took care of that problem. As of today I weigh 114 lbs, am very thin and very tired. I am also injecting myself daily with Forteo as I have severe osteoporosis, diagnosed many years ago, the pills I was taking at the time did not work, this is the 12th month since I started Forteo. I will be calling my Dr. tomorrow to make an appt. Any thoughts will be appreciated. Any other questions I will be happy to answer. Thank You. Sally Crawford XXXXXXX MT. E- YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Get MRI done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have read your query.

You haven't tell anything about MRI scan of your back focusing vertebra 9.

MRI scan tells about whether fractured vertebra is causing any compression on spinal cord, which is causing weakness in you.

You haven't mentioned that if you are using any brace.

You are using forteo injection, I am assuming it may be advised by doctor.

its good that you are visiting a doctor but I advise you to visit orthopedic surgeon(specialist doctor), not simple doctor, he may advise you MRI scan and will do your physical examination and then act accordingly, as if I am your treating doctor I would do the same as advise you all the above.

Merely taking forteo injections will not help, your doctor may also advise you physiotherapy and diet depending upon your physical examination.

I hope you got your answer, any query relating to this is welcome.

Thanks,

Dr.CHANDER XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
