Question: My husband has been suffering with sever swelling from mid thigh to the bottom of his feet They get so big, red and warm to touch, pitting edema, very painful. What can cause this?

this may be deep venous thrombosis or erysipelas or some less common disorders,but in every case he should do Doppler ultrasound to check his circulation and venous flow. also,he should rest,apply cold compresses and put elastic socks. Wish you good health. Regards
