Question: Have had severe hair loss for the last 4 years and still continuing. I have very few hair left and they are also become very thin. I haven't sought any medical help till now.

Hair fall and loss is of various types including
1) Androgenetic alopecia - characterised by patterned hair loss Usually involving temperoparietal area and recession of frontal hair line.
2) Diffuse telogen effluvium- characterised by diffuse hair loss not in any particular pattern.
3) Alopecia aerata - characterised by patchy areas of baldness over scalp.

in your case , it seems that you are having Androgenetic alopecia.
Still I will advise you to upload your images of the scalp so that I can visualize and give you my best advice.
