Question: Im very scared that i have esophageal cancer because i have had severe GERD for 14 yrs, I'm 38, and my prilosec isnt working well anymore. Are flareups common?

Is severe GERD common? How high is the risk of developing esophageal cancer wgen youve had uncontrolled GERD for years?

GERD is very common.
GERD can be recurrent and persistent.They usually do not go for cancers. But there is possibility in very few persons.
You can consult a gastroenterologist for examination, investigation and management if it is severe and present for as long time.
