Suggest Treatment For Sepsis From An Abscessed Tooth

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Nov 2016
Question: How would I know if I was getting sepsis from an abscessed tooth? I can't get in the dentist's office till Thursday. I am really hurting. Can I take more Tramadol? I had 150 mg today. It is a very old prescription. Not expired, though. It just has to be a extraordinary situation before I take pain medication.

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain, in case if you have a painful tooth that is probably due to infection, then the chances of sepsis can be there, but generally sepsis is seen if the condition is very severe and left untreated..

It will have symptoms like fever chills etc..

So first of all I would like to know that do you experience any other symptoms like fever, swelling on the face, stomach discomfort etc?

Secondly maximum dose of Tramadol that can be taken in a day should not exceed more than 400 mg in divided doses..

So if you have pain you can take another 50 mg dose of Tramadol but only after consulting a local Physician..

Any further questions are welcome..

Do you usually have to wait for a period of time for the antibiotics to work before the dentist can extract the tooth?

Brief Answer:
Depends on condition of tooth..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome back..

As per your query, in case if there is pus formation below the root tips of tooth due to decay and causing severe pain then it is generally advisable to take a course of antibiotics for 5 days and then the tooth is extracted..

In a decayed tooth with not a very severe pain and if the pus is not formed, generally tooth is extracted and is followed with antibiotics for 5 days or at times as a safety measure 5 days of antibiotics is given and patient is called on 3rd day for tooth extraction and then another 2 days post extraction antibiotics is continued..

So the dentist will evaluated you, take an x ray and then decide when to extract the tooth..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
