Suggest Treatment For Sepsis And Cellulitis In His Upper Thigh

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Apr 2015
Question: MY husband is almost 40 years old, he was hospitalized twice in February (first time for Sepsis which then he got cellulitis in his upper thigh) the second time he was released to work and after 2 days at work and no antibiotics it came roaring back. He has been on clindamycin 300mg qid for the better part of 6 weeks. He has an appointment tomorrow with an infectious disease dr. I am getting pretty discouraged , i am wondering if the people treating him have ever treated this before and why it is taking so long to heal. He was released to work the beginning of last week.

Brief Answer:
Good he has appointment with infectious disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
I am sorry that he has been sick so much. There are many reasons why it may take some time for people to recover for infectious diseases. Sepsis is especially serious and it takes the immune system quite a while to recover after an episode of sepsis. It could be that his immune system is weakened and just needs time to recover or it could be that the organisms causing his infections are somewhat resistant to antibiotics. You are on the right track with seeing an infectious disease specialists. They will be the best at figuring out what is going on and if he is harboring any resistant organisms.
Do everything you can to support him in a healthy lifestyle with no alcohol or tobacco, regular exercise (as tolerated) and a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. It would also be good for him to take a multivitamin daily, an extra 1000 mg of vitamin C and 1000mg of fish oil daily. These supplements can help him recover his good health.
I hope he is back to health soon.
