Brief Answer:
Possibly Infected sebaceous cyst or a lymph node

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.
To recapitulate: Male/70 - excellent health overall - taking 10 mg cholesterol pills -
noticed pea sized growth in armpit a couple days ago...

Since the growth has appeared a couple of days ago the most probable causes can be as follows:
Infected sebaceous cyst: as has appeared within a few days - it is attached to the skin and moves with movement of the skin, may be tender, the skin may be inflamed.

Lymph node: this is usually situated deep within, not attached to the skin as the skin can be moved over it unless adherent to it, may be tender, there may be a history of some injury on the same side of upper limb or breast area.

Please check and let me know these details.
Please upload/post clear and focused photos if possible and if the lump is visible.

I hope this answer helps you.
Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
With Warm Regards.
