Brief Answer:
Differential diagnosis of facial palsy

Detailed Answer:
Hi Cwb7711, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. At your age (62 years), spontaneous facial palsy could be due to

: Bell palsy - Ruled out
: Herpes simplex virus infection
: diabetes mellitus,
: human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection
: XXXXXXX Hunt syndrome (peripheral facial palsy with zoster optics)
: Autoimmune disorders like sarcoidosis, Sjogren's syndrome,
: parotid-nerve tumors,
: polyarteritis nods and amyloidosis

I have given you the list. You should ask your doctor to confirm palsy by
: Nerve conduction velocity
: If diagnosis confusion, he might ask neurosurgeon to take biopsy of nerve

Also rule out above mentioned conditions by
: Blood sugar level
: Hiv ELISA test
: Checking serum antibodies to detect autoimmune disorders like c-ANCA, p-ANCA, ANA, ESR, CRP.

Also, you needs steroids (Prednisolone) tablets to recover facial nerve function. Kindly consult this about doctor. Steroids help in acute stage of facial palsy.

Hope it will help you. Thanks. Take care,
If still in doubt, do let me know.
