Question: My son has a very red inflamed nose after cleaning a new piercing with detol. I am planning on taking him to the doctor but would it be ok to use paw paw ointment to soothe the skin while waiting?

Brief Answer:
An antibacterial preceded by cleaning with plain water recopmmended

Detailed Answer:
Hello My Dear

Welcome with your query!
I have taken note of the facts and think that the allergic reaction could either be due to the piercing material or dettol, especially when used undiluted

I get lots of patients with similar complaints and here is what I advise to them with best results:

1 Clean the area frequently but without any soap or disinfectant

2 Mupirocin ointment every four hourly

3 Anti allergic orally. Levocetrizine is a good option and i given 5 mg a day

Invariably, the results are excellent.
I am sure your doctor will examine in detail and confirm the cause by certain tests like Patch Test, if deemed fit.

I will be glad to help you, if needed.

Best wishes.
