default
Posted on Fri, 23 Sep 2016
Question: I have had recurring uti infections and got a bladder instill after 3 clean urine samples on Tuesday but now I am feeling bladder discomfort again. I've been taking urolet mb and macrobid prophylactic previously but now I'm in pain. Can I take Bactrim with the Urolet? I don't think so from what I've read.

Brief Answer:
Stop present treatment at once.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist,i can understand your concern.

You're right,in that you shouldn't be taking repeated courses of antibiotics.
Stop any more bladder instillations. It's not advised by any Urologist.
Stop the antibiotics you're taking.
You may take Tab Dicyclomine, once or twice daily, for relief of pain.
Get it prescribed by your local doctor or pharmacist.

After two days, do the following tests :
1. urine routine and culture.
2. blood routine,creatinine,RBS,LFT,and platelets.
3. ultrasound -KUB,with residual urine.

Drink about 10 glasses fluids daily.
Consult an Urologist with all the reports,or send them here, for an expert opinion.
Wish you well.

So I cannot keep taking the urolet to help with the bladder discomfort? What about the Bactrim for some relief too? The bladder Instillation was done by a urologist. Why do you say not to? Also forgot yo mention I had a clear cystoscope a couple of months ago and passed a kidney stone,

Brief Answer:
follow the advise given for expert opinion.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Well kidney stone is new information.
Same with cystoscopy.

1. You can continue with the Urolet,if you feel relief after taking it.
It's not a routine prescription.
To get a proper urine -culture report, the antibiotic has to be stopped for atleast
2-3 days.
2. You're advised not to have any more bladder instillations.
That's not the way,UTI's are treated.
3. You'll need to do an ultrasound-KUB scan,with residual urine,for a proper test.
Kindly send the cystoscopy reports if possible.

Wish you well.

I don't have any results from cystoscopy other than the dr said everything looked normal. I also had a ct scan done to view my stones and all it said was I still had a small one in left side.
