Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Seborrhoeic Dermatitis
Question: have dermatitis on scalp . have use T-gel, Head and shoulders and prescription shampoo
Ketoconazole; was prescribed Penicillin Vk 500 mg tablet for an infected molar by a dentist a few weeks ago and response for both the infected tooth and scalp were very good. Only ten day prescription and after that, dermatitis came back worse than before. Flaking, redness, pimples, irritation, etc. Put triple antibiotic on severe spots. XXXXXXX infected on and off for several years. What to do?

I have gone through your history and according to me you are having seborrhoeic dermatitis.
I can understand your concern but it is chronic disease of the scalp and hair bearing areas of the body associated with excessive yeast colonisation.
It needs to be treated for long periods of time.
I usually recommend my patients to use a ketoconazole shampoo every alternate day along with a lotion containing clotrimazole and beclomethasone combination on the areas severely affected twice daily.
Once the response occurs the lotion can be stopped but ketoconazole shampoo is to continued for long duration.
Along with this in severe cases I ask them to take tablet ketoconazole 200 mg once daily for 3-4 weeks.
These are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.
For itching and irritation you can start with tablet Chlorpheniramine 4mg once or twice daily depending on the intensity of itching.
