Brief Answer:
Psychotic depression

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Your mother is having a psychiatric illness. The possible causes could be :
1) Psychotic depression
2) Dementia.
Both these conditions can present with such symptoms at the age of 80+ years. These need to be treated properly. Drugs like a combination of fluoxetine and olanzapine can act good over these conditions. However her forgetfullness needs to be assessed using XXXXXXX Mental State Examination and the dementia needs to be conformed. If it is a dementia as well then the drugs like donepezil and memantin can help her. In all you need to see a psychiatrist and can discuss the issues we have just discussed. She should be fine with medications.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
