Suggest Treatment For Persistent Dry Hacking Cough

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Feb 2015
Question: I have had a dry, hacking cough for almost a whole year. I am not bringing up anything when I cough. I am also congested and constantly spraying AYR Nasal Mist in my nose. I have a hard time sleeping as I am only breathing out of one nostril. I do have allergies and have been diagnosed with allergic rhinitis. I used to go to a local immunologist, but he has passed away. Should I contact another immunologist to be treated?

Brief Answer:
get done PFT.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your problem and situation.
I want to ask few questions first.
1. Have you consulted pulmonologist ever?
2. Have you undergone PFT ( Pulmonary Function Test) ever?
3. Chest x ray is done or not?
Now a days, one terminology is emerging "one airway one disease". So allergic rhinitis and asthma is now considered as a single entity. Both can be seen simultaneously.
So possibility of asthma (cough variant) is high in your case.
So I advice you to consult pulmonologist, rather then immunologist and discuss all these.
You should get done PFT at least.
Or consult immunologist and discuss possibility of asthma.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
