Posted on Thu, 11 Feb 2016
Question: hi
Actually I am suffering from Excessive burping/belching from last 8 months. Burps start and they do not end. I had done endoscopy which said that I have H. Pylori srong infection as well as chronic active gastritis. The pylokit was prescribed for 21 days which was completed along with sparacid DS. There after for 2 months Sparacid was continued. By this time burps were reduced but not stopped. Lateron again after a month or so burps are started. Also it problems me sometimes in breathing. Also just in the center below the chest I feel very uncomfortable and I need to jerk by twisting or etc so that a stretch will come at that point. Now doctor has prescribed Sompraz HP Kit and Sucrafil O Gel.
My concern is whether the proper analysis has been done what is happening. Is my treatment on right track ??

Brief Answer:
Repeat treatment for H.pylori is usually not required

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thanks for putting your query in HCM.

I can understand your concerns.

Main causes of burping are Acid peptic disease, Gastroesophageal reflux disease, Dyspepsia and decreased gastric motility

Usually repeat treatment for H.pylori is not required and it is done for maximum upto 14 days only

I dont think any other investigations is required

Usually the medicines which I found very useful in my patients with burping/ belching is proton pump inhibitor along with a prokinetic agent like Cap Sompraz-L which contains esmoprazole and levosulpiride to be taken once a day before breakfast

Along with a tablet containing enzymes which helps in digestion of food like pankreoflat twice a day with meals

These two above mentioned medicines are available OTC. Also few general measures and lifestyle changes are also required for better relief like:
1. Do regular aerobic exercise at least 30 minutes / day
2. If you are obese or overweight then you should reduce your weight again by exercise and low caloric diet
3. Observe when you take milk or milk products whether these symptoms worsen, if yes then please avoid them
4. Avoid carbonated drinks, wine or beer
5. take black tea and add cardamom and ginger to it and take them with meals
6. Also avoid drinking water along with food, it should be taken at least after 2 hrs and avoid lying down soon after meals that also for at least 2hrs

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
