Suggest Treatment For Peripheral Neuropathy Symptoms And Withdrawal From Oxycodone

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Jan 2016
Question: I am experiencing peripheral neurapathy following a recent withdrawal from oxycodone. I had an RFL procedure done on my neck a year ago. I am also under a lot of stress due to continued illness since mid July. I am taking Requip for the neuropathy and Remeron and Lorazepam for stress the last week. I fall asleep but cannot stay asleep. I also still have herpetic gingivostomatitus which was treated with Aclyvir with no success. I talked to another webmd doctor and he suggested supplementing with multivitamin which I have also done. My question is how long should I be on these medications? And how long can RLS be present...is this a lifelong trauma? Also my BP I has increased due to the stress and pain I am under.

Brief Answer:
RFL effects last up to one year.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

RFL ( radio frequency lesioning ) effects in controlling pain last up to 12 months.

So, if the procedure was done a year ago, its effects are diminished by now.

If it is considered necessary, this procedure can be repeated.

Multivitamin supplements could be used several months if needed, but follow up with your Doctor is needed because overdosage and high blood levels can cause adverse effects too.

A key point in improving your condition is correct treatment of stress disorder.

Other treatment options about neuropathy is use of pregabalin, but since it is a prescription drug, its use should be discussed with your Doctor.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

I know about the RFL timeline. I want to know how long the RLS can last? And if it could have been caused by the RFL procedure and or weening off my oxycodone?

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

RFL provides satisfactory control of symptoms for around six months, but its effects can last up to one year.

Oxycodone doesn't cause peripheral neuropathy, it is used instead to control the pain caused by peripheral neuropathy.

RFL also doesn't cause neuropathy.

Causes of peripheral neuropathy include diabetes, nerve compression, toxins. thyroid and kidneys dysfunction, low vitamins B group levels, viral infection etc.

Hope I've been of help.

Greetings.
