Suggest Treatment For Perianal Abscess

default
Posted on Mon, 30 May 2016
Question: i have perianal abscess, which was diagnosed by the doctor almost 2 weeks back. The abscess was at very early stage without fever where doctor prescribed antibiotics CiploxT TZ for 5 days (morning and evening) and Augmentin (morning and evening) for a period of 10 days along with Enzoflam (morning and evening). My problem is that the area still pains after taking the medication. I can feel a little lump around the area. Please suggest what should i do next. I dont have fever.

Brief Answer:
Draining the abscess is the absolute treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Unfortunately antibiotics are not approved form of treatment for abscess, even if it is perianal abscess. Only incising the skin over the abscess with drainage of the pus is the absolute treatment. The drainage has to be complete. Antibiotics are used if the abscess is very very tiny and chance of rupture is very small.

So I suggest you to go back to a general surgeon who can do drain the abscess and pack it so that the pus does not accumulate again. This is simple procedure and takes very small time under local anesthesia.

Hope this answer finds helpful and useful.

Thank you very much for your response. The abscess was infact small few cms reason why the General Surgeon suggested antibiotics. Since you are suggesting that Draining the abscess is the only solution, please explain the Surgerical Procedure in detail. I am a working professional hence i need to understand how many days of leave will be required to do this. Is it a day procedure? How many days does it take for recovery.

Brief Answer:
Day procedure

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

As I said it is a day procedure and takes less than 10 minutes to drain the abscess. You may not be able to sit for a day so you can rest for 48 hours maximum following the procedure.
