Suggest Treatment For Pain In Thigh While On Voltaren And Tylenol

Posted on Mon, 18 Jul 2016
Question: I've been suffering with nasty pain in the front and side of my right thigh and up into my lower back as well as down into and behind my right knee for nearly 8 weeks. I've tried using Voltaren emulgel extra strength 2x a day for almost 10days. it does give me relief however it is short lived. ive also tried Tylenol 3s that I had leftover from hardware removal surgery 5 months ago which also gives me very temporary relief.

I'd like to know if there's anything else I can do....the pain is excruciating at times and has left me in tears several times. I can't take advil or muscle relaxants due to having 3 confirmed clots in the affected leg. I am on the blood thinner eliquis 5mg 2x a day for the rest of my life.

thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Gababpentin, pregabalin, amitriptyline, tizanidine are options present for pain relief in addition to Tylenol, tramadol and the gel. NSAIDs are not absolutely contraindicated and naproxen can be used for pain and inflammation. Blood flow adequacy needs to be determined. A Doppler ultrasound of the lower limbs can be advised again to look for patency of the vessels to see if a clot has emerged/ formed despite anticoagulation.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
