Suggest Treatment For Onychocryptosis

default
Posted on Mon, 26 Oct 2015
Question: There are few podiatrists in my state and I've been working thru my health center to find one. So far, the wait for the one doctor they found is 6 months. I had a large portion of a big toenail fall off and have more jagged nail in the nail bed. Is there a safe way for me to remove that by myself? I get cramps in that toe now, too. Yes, the nail had a fungus.

I went to a podiatrist a few years ago and he said my toenail had a fungus. He removed the nail but did not do so permanently. The nail grew back and looked ugly but didn't bother me much until it was falling off a few days ago. I had severe pain, like cramping, and looked to see what it was, and that's when the biggest part of the nail came off. There are some jagged sections of the nail still on the nail bed. My doctor referred me to a podiatrist but I cannot see him till mid-March. I asked her to see if there was anyone else, but have yet to hear back. Dermatologists are scarce here, too, and I don't think the toenail removal requires a surgeon. I don't have any new pictures of myself, if that is what you meant by a photo. If that is required to tell me about my toe, and what I should do, I'll have to see if I can get a new photo made.

Brief Answer:
OnychoCryptosis with Partial Onycholysis

Detailed Answer:
Ans-OnychoCryptosis with Partial Onycholysis

Hi,Thanks for the updates.
I partly understood the status of your toenail.
Though you had partially removed the nail lately, jagged portion still remains and seems to be ingrown nail portion. And that is the worrying and complex part in your case.
For your advanced age this could prove serious,if proper care is not taken.
Hence you were advised to have Second Opinion from Surgeon, who could remove the ingrown toe nail with all due precautions for your advanced age.

Hence I would need a photograph of the affected toe nail / foot just to review the exact status and gravity of your toenail health issue.
I can understand your problem of podiatrist services.
I could help you by suggestion, on how to manage your toenail issue after the photograph of the affected toenail.

Care Suggested -In the mean while-
you can start following medicines under conver of your family doctor-/or dermatologist-
Tab Terbinafin-for 12 weeks for treating the Onychomycosis
Tab Zincovit
Correct any undetected diabetes after blood sugar studies.
High protein diet/Good fluid intake/ and fruit juices would help you to recoup early.
Proper Pedicure-with oiling of the foot(By Coconut-or Olive oil) after dettol cleaning of the foot part and keeping the part dry. Will appreciate writing your feedback review comments,to help the needy patients like you at HCM.

Await photograph of the affected nail ,which you can take with XXXXXXX phone camera and update it to HCM site, for further suggestions after its review.

If satisfied with this reply,Will appreciate you,to write excellent feedback review comments,to help the needy patient visitors like you,to HCM.

Good Day!!

A picture of the toe in question has just been uploaded. Hope that helps.
✓ IMGP1424.JPG has been uploaded.
There was some difficulty getting a picture, so I trust this will be okay.

I am NOT diabetic. I have blood work done every other month due to renal failure. I follow a special diet to keep potassium levels down and am limited in the amount of protein I can eat and juices, too. There are many items that are healthy for others but not for me.

Sorry that you consider me to be of advanced age. Many of my family lived into their late 90's, so I don't think of myself as all that old.

I cannot see any doctor around here soon, but will try to go to my regular doctor or a P.A. if needed. For now, I will treat it with Fungi Nail and wear a Band Aid. Thank you.

HI,Thanks for the updates.
Seem to be in Good Health and Activity. My apologies for the under-estimation.
Wishing you Good Health and Long healthy life!!

Reviewed the photo data in context of your query facts.
Though you are quiet healthy, the remaining nail seems to be almost 50 % or more, and would be really painful and may complicate in to unforeseen problems, which I would suggest you to avoid for the better.
You Should be On Renal Diet as practiced by you with your doctors.
If you don't have specialised Surgeon's services currently, you can take them after you go to your regular doctors.

But I definitely would suggest you to go for Surgical Removal of the remaining great toe nail,as its a Very Minor Painless Safe Surgical Procedure and it would be a painless and SAFE removal, which would close your this health issue in 1-2 weeks time.

Continue on the lines as suggested .
And keep me updated by a direct question to ME at HCM platform.

Hope you will not forget to write excellent feedback comments at the end, to help the needy patients like you at My Clinic at HCM services.
